01

Getting Started

Start here if you are new to BlackWoman Startup Services or simply want to understand what we do.

BlackWoman Startup Services is a financial education and services platform designed to help individuals, families, businesses, and organizations make financial concepts easier to understand and financial conversations easier to begin.

We provide education, workshops, speaking experiences, and pathways into appropriate private financial conversations when more individualized guidance is needed.

No.

BlackWoman Startup is the originating brand, but BlackWoman Startup Services serves men and women, families, businesses, employers, churches, nonprofits, community organizations, and other groups.

Not at all.

You do not need to know the terminology, have everything organized, or even know exactly what question to ask.

Sometimes the first useful step is simply gaining enough clarity to understand what the next question should be.

Start with our Contact Us page and choose the pathway that feels closest to what brought you here.

If you are still unsure, choose General Inquiry. We can help determine the most appropriate next conversation.

02

Personal Conversations

Questions about what happens when you reach out for yourself or your family.

The conversation begins with understanding what brought you in, what you are trying to accomplish, and where you may need greater clarity.

Depending on the situation, topics may include financial organization, savings, debt, income protection, workplace retirement plans, investing concepts, retirement planning, and ownership.

When individualized financial recommendations are appropriate, those conversations take place in the appropriate private, licensed, and supervised setting.

No.

A conversation begins with understanding your situation and helping determine what questions need to be addressed.

Education comes first.

We can help you better understand financial terminology, general concepts, and the information you may encounter when reviewing benefits or financial materials.

If a question becomes specific to an account, product, plan, or personal financial recommendation, the conversation may need to move into a different setting or back to the appropriate provider or administrator.

Yes. We can help you understand what employer-sponsored retirement plans are, how they generally work, and the terminology and concepts you may encounter so you feel better prepared to make informed decisions and have more productive conversations about your benefits.

For questions about the specific provisions of your employer's plan — such as eligibility, employer matching, vesting, available investment options, plan rules, fees, or transactions — your employer's HR or benefits team and the plan's administrator or provider are generally the appropriate sources.

In some situations, members of our licensed team may be formally engaged to support or service an employer's retirement plan. When that relationship exists, the scope of the conversation may be different and would be handled within the appropriate authorized and supervised setting.

Our goal is not to replace your HR department or plan administrator. It is to help you understand enough to ask better questions and have better conversations.

We teach this through the broader concept of Income Protection.

Your income supports housing, food, family responsibilities, debt, future goals, and the people who depend on you.

Life insurance can be one tool used within a broader income-protection strategy. Specific coverage recommendations belong in an appropriate private, licensed, and supervised conversation.

Financial Education

What we teach, what education means here, and where the boundaries of public education belong.

Topics may include:

  • Financial foundations
  • Financial organization
  • Emergency savings
  • Debt
  • Income protection
  • Employer-sponsored retirement plans
  • Retirement concepts
  • Investing fundamentals
  • Ownership and wealth building
  • Business-owner financial education
  • Money for Kids
  • Financial stewardship for churches

Specific content depends on the audience and educational setting.

The public website, workshops, and educational resources are designed to provide financial education.

They are not a substitute for individualized financial recommendations.

The platform educates. The licensed, supervised conversation recommends.

Not in a general educational workshop.

We can teach concepts such as diversification, investment types, retirement accounts, risk, and other fundamentals.

Individual investment recommendations require an appropriate private, licensed, and supervised conversation.

The underlying financial principles may overlap, but business owners often face additional questions involving the relationship between business revenue and their personal financial life.

Our business-owner education can address organization, retirement concepts, income protection, continuity concepts, and building ownership beyond revenue.

You know how to hire people. Nobody taught you to hire your money.

Set for Life

A signature BlackWoman Startup financial education experience. The public website introduces the experience without giving away the proprietary methodology.

Set for Life is a signature BlackWoman Startup financial education experience created to help grown folks make money concepts easier to understand, connect, and use.

Rather than treating financial topics as isolated information, the experience helps participants see how different parts of their financial lives connect.

It is better described as an educational experience.

The format may vary depending on the audience or engagement.

We intentionally do not teach the complete Set for Life methodology on the public website. The experience is designed to be experienced.

Yes.

Organizations interested in Set for Life can submit an organizational inquiry through the Contact Us page so we can learn more about the audience, objectives, timeframe, and desired format.
